Oct-3/4, also known as POU domain, class 5, transcription factor 1, plays a crucial role in maintaining the pluripotency and self-renewal of embryonic stem cells, making Oct-3/4 essential for early development and tissue differentiation. This transcription factor is primarily located in the nucleus, where Oct-3/4 binds to specific DNA sequences to regulate the expression of genes involved in stem cell maintenance and differentiation.
