IFN-α Antibody (5D4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects interferon-alpha (IFN-α) in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). IFN-α plays a crucial role in the immune response, particularly in the defense against viral infections, by inducing the expression of various antiviral proteins and enhancing the activity of immune cells. This cytokine is produced primarily by leukocytes in response to viral infections and is essential for establishing an effective antiviral state in neighboring cells, thereby limiting viral replication and spread. The importance of IFN-α extends beyond its antiviral properties, as IFN-α also exhibits antitumor and immunomodulatory effects, making IFN-α a valuable therapeutic agent in the treatment of various malignancies and autoimmune diseases. The IFN-α receptor, a multisubunit complex, facilitates the signaling of IFN-α, leading to the activation of several downstream pathways that contribute to its diverse biological functions. With an ability to target and modulate immune responses, IFN-α remains a significant focus of research and clinical application, underscoring the relevance of anti-IFN-α antibody (5D4) in studying and harnessing the power of this vital cytokine.
