SEE ALSO...

C5β Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects C5β protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). C5β (E-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. C5β protein plays a crucial role in the complement system, which is essential for immune defense against pathogens. Specifically, C5β is generated from the cleavage of the C5 precursor, which is first processed to remove four basic residues, resulting in two chains, α and β, linked by a disulfide bond. The activation of C5 by C5 convertase leads to the release of C5α anaphylatoxin, a potent mediator of inflammation, and the generation of C5β, which is involved in the formation of the membrane attack complex. This complex is vital for lysing pathogens and facilitating the clearance of immune complexes. The interaction of C5β with other complement components and receptors on myeloid leukocytes triggers proinflammatory responses, including cellular degranulation and cytokine release, which are critical for mounting an effective immune response. Understanding the function and dynamics of C5β is important for elucidating its role in various pathophysiological conditions, including asthma and bacterial infections, where complement activation is often dysregulated.
