SEE ALSO...

S-100 α/β chain Antibody (B32.1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects S-100 alpha/beta chain protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). S-100 α/β chain (B32.1) antibody is available as a non-conjugated format. S-100 protein plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including cell cycle progression and differentiation regulation, which are vital for maintaining normal cellular function and tissue homeostasis. S-100 proteins are implicated in calcium-induced calcium release activation, microtubule assembly inhibition, and protein kinase C-mediated phosphorylation modulation, highlighting their importance in signal transduction pathways. The S-100 family consists of two subunits, S-100 α and S-100 β, which share approximately 60% sequence identity and can form three distinct dimeric combinations: two α chains, two β chains, or one of each. This versatility in structure allows S-100 proteins to interact with various cellular partners, influencing a range of physiological and pathological processes. S-100 is predominantly localized in astrocyte cytoplasm and nuclei, Schwann′s cells, and certain tumors, including ependymomas and astrogliomas, and is also found in benign naevi and malignant melanocytic tumors, as well as in Langerhans cells in the skin. S-100 α and β expression in diverse tissues, alongside other calcium-binding proteins like calbindin and parvalbumin, underscores their significance in both neural and non-neural contexts, making anti-S-100 α/β chain antibody (B32.1) an essential tool for researchers studying these critical pathways.
